What Stevie says about it:
" My latest song with killsaly a cover of "God" by Tori Amos. You can download it from
hipsterplease.com The thing I'm enjoying about Black Cat Hit Squad is that we seem to have found our "sound" and while this song is a cover is a pretty good indication of the kind of thing we're aiming for sonically. Really love what Jason did with the music using a ton of different elements to give it a unique feel. We could have played around with the vocal mix another 2 weeks but this will do to get it out there.
As far as the lyrical idea goes we thought it would be interesting to cover a female vocalist and agreed on Tori Amos. Looking through Tori's killer catalogue of songs most of them have a very specific feminine energy and lyrical content so I was looking for a song that made sense coming from a male's point of view and chose "God". To me this song is about western culture's concept of a paternal, angry and judgemental god, causing famines and earthquakes and how that feminine energy is not there to balance out our concept of God. Most of the religions before Christianity worshiped the feminine aspect of God, the element so obviously missing the Catholics deified the virgin Mary. Tori wonders whether things would be better if "God" had a woman to look after him and I felt like that was a message I could get behind."
